Aligarh: After his four days of Padyatra, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi will address a massive Mahapanchayat of Kisan Sandesh Yatra here today. It is expected that over one lakh people will attend mahapanchayat.

Top Congress leaders, Including Digvijay Singh and Rita Bahuguna will also attend the panchayat. Earlier during his padyatra which was concluded on Saturday Rahul met large number of farmers and organized several meetings.  He interacted with them and reassured that UPA government will bring new land acquisition bill for the poor farmers in the country.

Meanwhile, terming the spat between Rahul Gandhiand Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati as a “part of democracy”, Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said that the Congress leader`s movement has “energised” the functioning of democracy.

“It is part of democracy. He (Gandhi) likes to speak with his actions, she (Mayawati) likes to speak with her words. It is (for) you to decide whether you prefer action or words,” Khurshid told reporters on Friday.
Describing Rahul`s padayatra as a “Gandhian movement”, Khurshid said, “A new energy has come, not only to the Congress, but people`s belief in democratic functioning has increased because of this Gandhian movement by Rahul. I welcome this.”

The foot march, which was flagged off from Bhatta village in Greater Noida on Tuesday, saw the Congress leader spanning over 70 km in hot and sultry weather conditions. During his yatra, Rahul stopped at nearly 25 villages and spoke to villagers from about 60 villages to discuss the issue of land acquisition by the Mayawati government.
