Hélène Cixous has written one of the great founding texts of women's writing, "Laughter of the Medusa" (1975). By reworking this fall with my students, I realized that the text retains a surprising relevance to young women, in their experiences and how they conceive the relationship with their bodies and their creativity, and that part of any course of study women and gender studies, both in social sciences or humanities. This is far from simplistic and essentialist reading that has often been made of this text. United States, the Scandinavian Toril Moi was instrumental in setting this skewed view of French feminism an essentialist.
