An 81-year-old ethnic Indian man, who has been waiting for years to bring his children back from India, says the Malaysian authorities have failed to issue them citizenship documents despite court's ruling that they are country's lawful citizens.
M Ramanoojum says it had been 19 months since a Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled that his two children are lawful Malaysian citizens.
The two children were born in India. Their mother failed to register the births of both her children, who were born in India, with the Malaysian High Commission.
Ramanoojum, a former policeman, said the National Registration Department had yet to grant his children, Thirupathi 36 and Meena 32, Malaysian identification documents.
Ramanoojum, came to Malaysia from Madurai in India in 1934 at the age of four, was granted Malaysian citizenship in 1958, New Straits Times reported.
He married N Pushpam in India in 1960. She also took up Malaysian citizenship later.
Bangalore: The World Bank will provide Rs.228 crore to promote quality engineering education in Karnataka and 14 engineering colleges will benefit from it, state Higher Education Minister V.S. Acharya said Friday.
Ten of these colleges will also be helped financially to set up centres of excellence for research in various fields, he told reporters.
The bank is extending the finances as part of the central government's scheme of Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQUIP), intended to encourage post-graduate education in engineering and research, development and innovation, the minister added.
Karnataka has over 180 engineering colleges, 14 government and the rest private. Around 60,000 students, several thousand from outside the state, get admitted every year into these colleges.

A slogan -- "where arts, nature and community come together" -- is also being voted upon; Simpson said the organization is open to ideas on it as well.
The previously discussed name change could require a little extra spending, but Simpson said all money spent by the organization is listed in its financials and must be voted upon by the three owner cities -- Plano, Allen and Frisco.
According to a document released by the ACC last month, branding, design and production is estimated to cost between $15,000 and $17,000. Printing of business cards, collateral, letterheads, a website redo, and signage is estimated to be another $10,000 to $15,000; however, the organization is hoping for in-kind donations to help cover expenses.

New Delhi, June 28: The Crime Branch of Delhi Police may question some of the officials of SC/ST cell of Delhi University in connection with the fake caste certificate scam, unearthed last week.
The kingpin of the gang Himanshu Gupta has told the police that they used to deposit applications, getting the NOC (no objection certificate) with SC/ST cell of DU. "Some official from SC/ST cell must be helping them; otherwise they would not have been able to operate. Police will soon call the staff of SC/ST cell for questioning," said the police official.
The official added that this year around 31 students approached Himanshu Gupta for fake certificates. "12 students were given fake caste certificates. The accused had filled applications for eight students when they were held by crime branch while they were about to deposit NOC forms for 13 more students," he said.
The official said that they have checked two laptops belonging to Himanshu Gupta. "In 2009 they provided fake certificates to four students while in 2010 they 'helped' eight others. Police is conducting raids in Gurgaon to nab Satish, an aide of the accused," he added.
Police have identified all the students who have got fake certificates through this gang. Cops have written letters to respective principals in this regard to verify the status of these candidates and have sought a report. Police also examined the bank account of Himanshu Gupta.
On Saturday, Crime Branch of Delhi Police arrested three persons in this connection with the scam. Cops said that Himanshu Gupta (26), son of a Merchant Navy official is the kingpin of the gang while two others - Vikas (24) and Ketan Gupta (24) - were assisting him. They used to charge Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh for securing each admission. Police recovered 12 fake caste certificates, admission forms and two cars from their possession.

All eight teams, including a South Korean prep school, then traveled to New York this weekend to put their debate skills to the test.
"I remember most of us were in the debate room waiting for the announcement on who made it to the last round," Narayanan said. "Once it came out we had won, we all were really happy; some might have even thrown some fist pumps. We were really excited to go to New York, but it also meant there was a lot more work to be done and so much more we could achieve."
The elimination rounds the team would face in New York would differ in that now oral arguments had to be prepared as a panel of judges -- which contained college professors, international political experts and politicians -- peppered them with questions that would probe every facet of the team's position.
It would be a test that the Plano team of seniors would face with the confidence needed of a champion. Round after round, they defeated their opposition until they soon found themselves in the familiar territory of the finals.
The finals brought equal excitement and dread to the team. Plano teams have made the final round twice before during the 10 years of the competition. Each time, it had placed second. Garg said the team knew they had something to prove.
"The trip probably validates the hard work," Garg said. "But when we finally won, it meant so much more. It was really exceptional to see all of our hard work pay off and see the third time was a charm for Plano."
Cheryl Potts, the coach for the Plano Senior speech and debate team, said there was a mixture of "euphoria, relief, excitement" when they were announced as champions.
"When you have worked that hard and you feel like you did well, it is a little disappointing to come in second," she said. "The team was just amazing this year. As a whole, this team was just a bit better. They are all great speakers and think well on their feet."
The $10,000 prize will be split among the team; $5,000 will go to the debate program and the other $5,000 will be split evenly among the team members as scholarships.
New Delhi, Police today (June 25) claimed to have smashed a racket involved in helping students get admission in Delhi University colleges using fake caste certificates for Rs three to five lakh with the arrest of three youths, including a contract employee in a tehsildar office in New Delhi. The racket led by Himanshu Gupta allegedly managed to get admissions for 12 students, including four girls, this admission season in eight colleges. The colleges included Sri Ram College of Commerce, Kirori Mal College, Kamla Nehru College and Moti Lal Nehru College.

Forged caste certificate of the girl student, admission form and a bank draft were recovered from him. “The caste of the girl in the forged caste certificate was mentioned as ‘Gujjar’ and her residence was shown as Lado Sarai whereas she does not belong to ‘Gujjar’ community nor does she live in Lado Sarai,”
Ashok Chand, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), said.
Himanshu’s interrogation led to the arrest of his two associates Vikas and Ketan from Pushp Vihar and Mehrauli respectively. On the modus operandi, Chand said, Himanshu and Vikas floated an educational consultancy firm and advertised in the leading news papers in Delhi and other cities about facilitating
