Keeping pace with advancing technology, Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) would soon be introducing an online application system under “National e-Governance Plan’ to provide better services to candidates. A website launched to disseminate information is becoming popular with candidates. The website is also convenient for candidates to ascertain venues of examination, results and dates of interviews.

As the commission proposes reformation of the examination system, civil societies and government officials are of the opinion that personality and aptitude tests are vital during the interviews for candidates to serve the
public. A seminar on examination reforms for NCS, NPS & allied Services organized by NPSC held yesterday at Japfu hotel Kohima highlighted the stated aspect. The ‘reformation’ is inevitable for efficiency and quality recruitment process. The commission has received 13,000 applications for the examination scheduled for July 23. Chairman of NPSC Dr. V Hukuto Zhimomi said during the seminar that the challenge of selecting the finest and the most intelligent minds for the civil services has traversed a long difficult journey.

Despite best efforts under the prevailing system, candidates from one or the other discipline tops the civil services, he said. “The factor of successfully getting through NPSC examination to a great extent determined by one’s performance in the optional paper, depending upon the nature of questions and the examiners’ marking trend, the scores differ widely”, he said.

Dr. Zhimomi said that in the proposed common syllabus, emphasis would be testing the aptitude of candidates for the demanding life of the civil service and on the ethical and moral dimensions of decision-making. Various committees and commissions constituted for the state PSC’s and UPSC have advocated greater emphasize on the aptitude of the candidates rather than on the knowledge of subjects.
